From Five Good Minutes at Work Stress often accumulates at the end of a long, laborious day. You may experience gnawing tension in your body that puts you in the worst mood. This is fertile ground for lashing out or feeling short-fused with innocent coworkers. When you experience this kind of pent-up anger in your work environment, try this next stress-releasing exercise and invite your coworkers to participate. From a seated position, stand up and then sit down two or three times. As you stand and sit, monitor what is happening with your toes. Do you curl your toes upward as you stand or point them down and grip? Studies show that people whose toes go up tend to have more neck and shoulder discomfort. After having observed what happens with your toes, try this exercise two or three more times, keeping your toes and the soles of your feet in complete contact with the floor. You may have to bend a little at the hips to accomplish this task. Each time you get up, practice sitting and standing while keeping your feet and toes grounded. |
