From Five Good Minutes in Love

The wisdom of many cultures points to the view that all life forms share elemental qualities: earth, water, fire, wind, and space.

Try on this view for yourself and see what you might discover. Consider inviting your partner to join you.

- Find a comfortable spot-indoors or out-where you can easily connect with the natural world. For example, sitting or standing near a flower, stone, or houseplant; or, on a beach, near a stream, or in a wood.

- Breathe or listen mindfully for about a minute.

-Set your intention. For example: "May this practice awaken awe and wonder in me."

- For the rest of this practice, mindfully tune in to each of your senses as you connect with the solidity of the earth, the dampness of water, the warmth of fire, the movement of wind, and the stillness of space in and around you.

- When the elements come to you, smile at them. Then, let them go. What do they teach?
